A message from our President and CEO on sustainability

Ichibei Furukawa, the founder of The Furukawa Electric Company (FEC), parent company of OFS, left us these memorable words:  “Value employees. Value customers. Value new technologies. And contribute to society.”

Along with our parent company, OFS fully embraces the founder’s belief.  Since its inception, OFS has focused on safety, protection of the environment, and growth.  FEC’s and OFS’ beliefs are much in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 2015. As a member of society responsible for the future, OFS will continue to adhere to these beliefs.

The “Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030” sets the year 2030 as its target in a backcasting– defining a desirable future and then working backwards to identify policies and programs that will connect that specified future to the present.

We firmly believe that accelerating our efforts to achieve Vision 2030 and implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management will become the foundation upon which OFS contributes to the sustainability of society.  For achieving Vision 2030, FEC and OFS concluded that the important management issues for the FEC Group are:

• Creation of businesses that solve social issues
• Development of business activities that consider climate change
• Strengthening human capital management and organizational execution abilities
• Building a governance system to strengthen risk management

In a rapidly shifting world OFS will continue to evolve to become a sustainable corporate entity that promotes safety and meets the expectations of all stakeholders.  Our actions will contribute to achieving a truly affluent, sustainable society.
